Translation of an ancient tibetan painting into modern neuroscience II
English version below
Descárgatela, no pierdes nada. Igual ganas felicidad. Medita una cosa: ¿Quieres ser más feliz?
Un abrazo
Txus
Yesterday my children criticized the newsletter.
-Mommy, the one about the painting is cool, but this last one with so many strange words is a bit dense, isn't it?
You see what I'm telling you, Buddhists explain everything much better?
Well, today I am going to focus on the rabbit which is the most important thing and if you want to learn more I leave you the reference of the book El espejo del cerebro, by Nazaret Castellanos where they go much deeper.
Yesterday we stayed in the meditator "concentrao" with his prefrontal cortex at full capacity. And suddenly he gets distracted.
In our Judeo-Christian culture we would already be saying, "Oh my God, I'm terrible at meditating, meditating is not my thing" and all those things that we tell ourselves so many times and that do nothing but annoy us.
But it is not like that. The moment when you realize that you have been distracted is the moment when the anterior insula and the anterior cingulate gyrus are activated. These are, I swear, the only two words in today's newsletter. Look, I'll show you a little picture of where they are:
Buddhists represent it in the picture as a rabbit on top of the elephant.
This, far from being bad, is the best thing that can happen to you. A policeman has been activated in your head. Before, you were not even aware that this was happening, that your brain was in a continuous dispersion.
Now you know it. And as you meditate, this important brain area hypertrophies, increases in size. It is no longer an isolated cop, it is a whole patrol of anti-dispersion cops.
The more this area grows, the more you concentrate, the more your prefrontal cortex grows, the more you control your mind, the happier you are?
Cool or what?
I'll give you a summary of the whole week:
*Meditation is an ancient technique that was born in the East and helps you to be happier.
*Modern science has thousands of proofs that this "works like hell".
*They explain it better than we do, in a much more intuitive way.
*I advise you very much, because I love you dear subscriber and I want you to be happier, to incorporate meditation into your life.
If you don't know how, don't have time, don't have a meditation group nearby or anything like that, Irene does some great meditations and makes the process very easy for you to do it in your own home and dedicating no more than 15-20 minutes a day.
When you sign up for her newsletter she gives you a free meditation to try. Download it, you lose nothing. You will still gain happiness. I think it pays off in the balance:
A hug
