No encuentro Danios en Nepal, pero sí algo mejor

I can't find Danios in Nepal, but I can find something better.

Escribo este email volviendo de Nepal. Es el tercer viaje que hago con mi amigo Germán de Fotomundos. Antes había estado con él en Vietnam y en Tailandia.

En Tailandia encontramos Danios de una manera mágica y en Vietnam unos gusanos de seda que nunca había visto. Si me sigues desde hace tiempo ya sabes de que te hablo.

Yo andaba muy ilusionada porque Danio rerio, “el nuestro”, en teoría vive en Nepal y la India, así que estaba segura de que lo iba a ver.

Pero al poco de llegar a Katmandú me di cuenta de que no. El dueño de una pequeña tiendecita de peces me lo dejo claro.

Aquí hace demasiado frio. Puedes encontrar danios en el sur de Nepal, pegado a la India.

Pero Germán nunca decepciona y me dijo, no te preocupes que en las montañas vas a ver un pez que nunca has visto en tu vida.

Y así fue: Eso que señala es el Machapuche, una montaña de los Himalaya, sagrada que tiene forma de cola de pez. Es una montaña que no se puede escalar.

Así que qué quieres que te diga en estos 23 días por uno de los países más alucinantes que he visitado en mi vida se me han olvidado los danios.

Quizá porque:

Me he quedado sin aliento viendo como el sol se desperezaba al amanecer y bañaba las montañas más altas del mundo,

He convivido con una familia neuar que nos mimo cuido y nos hizo sentir como en casa desde el primer momento.

He visitado pueblos ocultos en los que no existe el dinero

He reído y llorado con unos compañeros de viaje alucinantes,

He subido y bajado, subido y bajado y vuelto a subir y a bajar preciosos caminos en bosques encantados en los que esperabas que en cualquier momento apareciera un hobbit o un hada, subido a la copa de un rododendro cargado de unas imponentes flores rojas,

He hecho yoga al amanecer en el pais que vio nacer a Buda,

He entendido porque una filosofía milenaria hace que la gente te transmita paz y alegría cuando te mira,

He bailado bailes nepalís y Paquito el Chocolatero en solo 5 minutos en una noche estrellada en una montaña perdida,

He rezado a Buda, a Shiva, a Kali, a Laskmi y a un montón de dioses y diosas que despiertan devoción desde hace milenios

Una tibetana de 80 años que cruzo los Himalaya a pie, me ha invitado a tomar el te en su casa,

He convivido en un monasterio con monjes grandes y pequeños que jugaban felices a las canicas y leían libros sagrados escritos con letras preciosas

He recitado el mantra OH MANI PADME HUM muchas veces mientras daba vueltas a una estupa gigantesca en medio de un ambiente mágico,

Me he hecho una foto con el dios Zeus,

Me han enseñado a hacer momos unas mujeres valientes rescatadas de una vida de pesadilla,

Me han cuidado y mimado unas señoras con la fuerza de una montaña,

Y tantas y tantas vivencias que me falta vuelo para escribir y me acompañarán el resto de mi vida.

Así que muchas gracias German, por hacer los viajes más increíbles del universo.

I can't find Danios in Nepal, but I can find something better

I am writing this email coming back from Nepal. It is the third trip I do with my friend Germán from Fotomundos. Before I had been with him in Vietnam and Thailand.

In Thailand we found Danios in a magical way and in Vietnam we found silkworms that I had never seen before. If you have been following me for a long time you know what I am talking about.

I was very excited because Danio rerio, “ours”, theoretically lives in Nepal and India, so I was sure I was going to see it.

But shortly after arriving in Kathmandu I realized that I was not. The owner of a small fish shop made it clear to me.

It's too cold here. You can find danios in the south of Nepal, close to India.

But Germán never disappoints and told me, don't worry, you will see a fish in the mountains that you have never seen in your life.

And so it was: what he points out is the Machapuche, a sacred Himalayan mountain in the shape of a fish tail. It's a mountain you can't climb.

So what do you want me to tell you in these 23 days in one of the most amazing countries I have visited in my life I have forgotten the danios.

Maybe because:

I have been breathless watching how the sun woke up at dawn and bathed the highest mountains in the world,

I have lived with a neuar family that took care of us and made us feel at home from the first moment

I have visited hidden villages where there is no money

I have laughed and cried with some fellow travelers.

I have climbed up and down, up and down and up and down again and again beautiful paths in enchanted forests where you expected that at any moment a hobbit or a fairy would appear, climbing to the top of a rhododendron loaded with stunning red flowers,

I have done yoga at dawn in the country where Buddha was born,

I have understood why a millenary philosophy makes people transmit peace and joy when they look at you,

I have danced Nepalese dances and Paquito el Chocolatero in only 5 minutes in a starry night in a lost mountain,

I have prayed to Buddha, Shiva, Kali, Laskmi and a lot of gods and goddesses that awaken devotion for millennia

An 80 year old Tibetan woman who crossed the Himalayas on foot, invited me to have tea at her house,

I lived in a monastery with big and small monks playing marbles happily and reading sacred books written in precious letters

I recited the mantra OH MANI PADME HUM many times while walking around a gigantic stupa in the middle of a magical atmosphere,

I have had my picture taken with the god Zeus,

I have been taught to make momos by brave women rescued from a nightmarish life,

I have been cared for and pampered by ladies with the strength of a mountain,

And so many and so many experiences that I am too short to write and that will accompany me for the rest of my life.

So thank you very much German, for making the most incredible trips in the universe.
