English version below
Txus
Well, to be more exact, I was born in Murcia, about 80 km from the Mediterranean Sea.
But I have always lived in Alicante, a city on the southeastern coast of Spain, quite touristic. And although I feel Murcianica at heart, without any doubt, the sea has been present throughout my life and gives me a special peace.
Maybe it is, as Serrat (a Spanish singer) said, because my childhood is still playing in its sand.
In fact, I am writing this newsletter sitting on the sand of San Juan beach, the one in the photo, a few years later.
It is early in the morning, and the hordes of tourists have not yet appeared. Two days a week, I come to the beach to do yoga.
It is a magical moment, where you see how the sun rises and when you close your eyes, you only hear the sea and the wind blowing in your face.
Starting the day like that gives you a wonderful energy.
I tell you all this for two reasons: if you walk along the coast this summer, and I don't care if it is the Mediterranean or any place with a sea of the ball of the world: get up early and go alone to walk by the sea.
Before anyone else arrives.
Observe it and feel it.
If you do it, you will understand it.
And I also tell you this because this summer, I will dedicate this newsletter to talking to you about the sea.
I will tell you stories of its inhabitants, what happens under its waters, and how we can take better care of it. Putting the best of myself to try to unite science and beauty.
For you to learn, for you to enjoy, for you to be inspired in your classes if you are a teacher, for you to look a little bit beyond the beach bars and sun loungers.
You see, the platform where I write this newsletter allows you a very cool thing.
It allows you to connect directly with people who create beautiful and interesting things, with people who want to learn, enjoy reading, or just have a good time relaxing away from all the noise of social networks and the strange and overwhelming society of immediacy that we are creating.
And without intermediaries: without publishers, without social networks that decide when you get the message and when not,
no rush,
without advertising.
And so it gives creators the opportunity to connect directly with their audience, allowing free versions of your content as well as paid versions.
Journalists, writers, artists, entrepreneurs, people from any field with something to tell are addressing their audience in this way. So why not do it from science as well?
In English-speaking countries, it is triumphing. And little by little, it is also opening up to Spanish-speaking countries.
So from now on (at least for the moment) I will write twice a week in summer talking about the sea.
One will be free on Tuesdays, and the other will be a version for paid subscribers on Sundays.
No ruin, 7 euros per month.
If you like what I tell and how I tell it, you can continue learning, reading and supporting this project.
I leave you with Serrat.
Best Regards,
María
