Me encantó.
Pues quizá, no sé.

This is a magic wand.
Take it.
You have to build an ideal human society: people have to live happily and be in perfect balance with the environment.
You can take elements from wherever you want. From all the systems you know.
I do this exercise every time I meet something new. I think what I would keep to make my ideal system. I think I was doing it unconsciously until this trip.
When I compare, most of the time I tend to choose more things from my country, Spain. I have always thought that I live in a very good place, with a good balance between happiness and work. And a rule of law that protects you from abuses.
I thought so in the USA. Seeing the rictus of stress of the zombie people walking the streets of Manhattan made me think that mine was better.
Talking to its inhabitants and seeing that the fear of a layoff and losing their health insurance made them absolute slaves of work made me feel overwhelmed.
Seeing the huge social inequalities.
Clearly, I preferred my system. As much as I knew that I would probably be the mambo queen in the USA.
But on this trip to Thailand, I didn't see it so clearly.
The tribal villages of northern Chiang Rai have shaken my schemes.
Watch this video of the Lahu village and breathe in the peace that is felt:
Children play happily in the square. Do, our guide comes in to play with them. He's good at it, hey.
They enjoy watching him and then move on.
They don't seem to need the tablet and cell phone.
Look at their houses.
Upstairs the humans. Below the animals. Chickens and dogs seem to be just as peaceful.
System that provides rich food, with zero waste.
To enjoy on incredible terraces integrated in nature.
Once I went to a farm in Valencia. It was run by Pep, a man whose dream was to recreate exactly that. A self-sustainable system. The EU had given him a lot of money for that purpose.
I loved it. And he taught us how to make bread.
But the thing is, it's all made up. These systems are self-sustainable. People live with a smile.
Would we get bored there?
Well, maybe, I don't know.
But I can assure you that in my ideal world I would take a few more of these elements than I would from the USA.
I have a project that helps you recreate an ecosystem and understand it better. It's not as perfect as this one but it's cool too.
Maybe a good way to spend this Christmas, enjoying family and learning what life is like.
