I need my muses (or musos).
That's how it is.
Maybe I have the soul of an artist, among so many technical scientific concepts.
When I started with Danio, my undisputed muse was my daughter Maria. She was 8 years old at the time and she was up for anything:
But, despite my repeated attempts to keep her always at the age of 8, my daughter insisted on growing up. And as she became a teenager, she stopped wanting to dress up as a scientist and help me in the lab and workshops.
So I turned my attention to my nieces and my friends' children: Claudia, Javier, Helena, Dario, Diana....
Now my undisputed muse is Silvia.
I have managed to convince her that the coolest animal in the world is the bat, she dresses up as a bug and comes running every Saturday to hug me and tell me about some adventure or to teach me something related to the animal world.
And she loves to come to my house to paint butterflies, or whatever, and get all covered in paint.
Here she is reading my story about Bombyx, the silkworm and munching on a succulent meal of Abuca.
I love the role of the cool aunt.
Well, a while ago, I was reading a lot about the negative effect of too many screens on children, and I told her mother: be careful with your cell phone and Silvia, it's not good for you. And I told her about what I was finding out.
The truth is that since then I see her much less with the cell phone and more playing the cabrilla in the abuca garden. I thought it was her parents' thing.
But what I didn't know was what my sister-in-law told me the other day:
-I was on my cell phone the other day and Silvia says to me, Mom, the cell phone is not good for your head. And I asked her where she got that from. I thought it was something from school.
-Says Aunt Txus.
Here you go.
The girl put her ear to the ground and kept saying that it was better to look for bugs in the garden than to watch tiktok videos. She was 6 years old.
No one expected it but we were all happy.
Silvia is really enjoying the worm story. And I also brought them a little box with the worms I got from last year's eggs.
With the story and the worms on the side she can learn more.
If you have a boy or a girl 11 years old or younger, you have a mus@ at a unique and unrepeatable moment to live incredible adventures with him or her.
Then they will grow up.
Now it's spring, it's silkworm season, you have a beautiful booklet with which they can learn about them.
Really, take advantage of this unique moment.
