English version below.

While preparing the worm project, a butterfly emerged from the cocoon. I knew it was male because silkworm butterflies have sexual dimorphism; that is, you can tell the male from the female.
I left it in its box, and it did not move at all.
The next butterfly that came out of a cocoon was female.
So, I put them together to make a video explaining the differences between males and females.
I caught the female first, but I realized it was not so simple when I went to catch the male.
The butterfly that had been in another box since the day before, very quiet, without moving, went literally crazy. He had detected a pheromone emitted by the females, and there was no one to stop him.
One of the things I talk about in the project is pheromones. These are substances that animals emit to have an "effect" on other animals. And the first pheromone that was discovered was bombicol, from the silkworm. The one responsible for driving my butterfly crazy.
So, I decided to make a second video.
Some time ago, my friend Victor, the inventor, gave me a methacrylate maze, like the ones used to study the behavior of mice.
I didn't know what for, since I was working with fish, and he told me: "You'll find a use for it". Now, he knew somehow what I would use it for.
Is it true that things happen for a reason?
Hey, maybe so...
The fact is that I took Victor's labyrinth, and I prepared myself to patiently record how long it took the male to find the female that was at the other end of the maze.
The result is one of the coolest videos I have filmed in this worm adventure. You can see it in this link.
This butterfly has clear things and does not give up his passion despite the obstacles.
I like this butterfly.
I also explain to you what is happening, like Rodriguez de la Fuente (saving the distances, of course), but with a worm and not with a lynx. I will not be the one to say that the lynx is not fantastic (and I would love to see it), but it is much more complicated to observe.
However, what I show you and explain in this video, you can do and see it at home or in your classroom. That is the advantage of working with silkworms. Everything I tell you in the project, you can see "life" without the need to go to the jungle.
Suppose you want to learn and teach many more things about the biology of this passionate and exciting species. In that case, you will find them here much more developed in this course.
Just write me back if you are interested in the English version of the project.
A hug
María
