Txus.
The other day I was left with the following: I had gone to Thailand and just when I had given up my hope of finding Danio, he almost magically appears under the bridge I was driving over. Read the post if you haven't here: Danio in Thailand part 1.
Well, the firecrackers of my fish expert friends lowered my illusion a bit. Because of course, in the middle of hysterical shrieking I showed them a picture of Danio that could be either a danio or a tiny shark:
I had it more or less clear because I had seen it live and I have been working with those critters for 5 years, but the truth is that the photo was a bit poopy.
So I was told that to do it right I had to catch Danio, put him in a glass jar and take a proper picture.
Of course, I was going on an organized trip, we were not going back there and it was difficult to do that. But Biere lived there and had already caught Daniomania. So I bought him a salabre and asked him to do me a favor: catch Danio with this, put it in a glass jar, take a picture of it and send it to me, please, please, please....
A few days later I received these photos and videos from Biere. My Thai friend grabbed the brailer and went to the river to fish for danios:
You don't know the joy it gave me.
Thank you Biere, I love you!
This photo was already much better and allowed me to compare it with photos of danios described in the area:
It looks like Danio kerri to me, although I am not an expert. My friend Sito, wise among the wise, tells me that they could also be rasboras, another fish of the Danionidae family. But look, between you and me, I'm more hopeful that at least it's Danio something.
Scientific clause: the scientific name of a species consists of two terms: the first refers to the genus, in this case Danio, and the second refers to the specific species. When you want to talk about all the species of the same genus you say Danio sp. We call ourselves Homo sapiens, "wise" man, without modesty.
This is a handy way of naming all living things that was invented by a guy named Linnaeus a whole bunch of years ago and is still in use.
"Mine" is Danio rerio. This Thai that Biere shows us is clearly not Danio rerio, it has fewer stripes, but I think it could be Danio sp, that is, of the same genus but different species. Cousins brothers go.
The rasboras would belong to the same family as the danios, called Danionidae family. They would be first cousins.
I can't go any further, but if there is a taxonomist in the room, please speak up.
Well, if you want Danio to go to your house I am considering making another shipment for houses. If you are interested reply me to this email plis.
Best regards
Txus.
PS: this Danio took a picture and went back to his river.
