Once upon a time, there was a little fish called Danio. Danio rerio.
Scientists loved him because they could look right through his transparent eggs.
And this year, Danio can visit your classroom, so that you too can become a scientist and learn many wonderful things.
That is how I began the very first advertisement for Aprende con Danio, nine years ago now.
I don’t know how long you’ve been reading this newsletter, but this is the project that made me leave my civil servant position and step into the unknown world of entrepreneurship, fish, children… and a thousand adventures.
Nine years ago, I saw the faces of a group of children looking at fish eggs, and I said to myself: “Txusita, this is what I want to do when I grow up.”
Yesterday, I saw that I hadn’t been wrong.
I visited Aitor Ikastola, a school in San Sebastián that has been doing the project from the very beginning. A school where Danio is now part of the curriculum — and, I think I can proudly say, almost part of its identity.
Every year since then, the children in 4th and 6th grade have carried out the project in their classrooms.
And from the little seed that Danio planted, they have managed to build an absolutely impressive laboratory.
The Basque Government has supported this commitment to science and provided the funding they needed.
Dorleta and Gurutxe have created a truly wonderful laboratory. With high tables for working with the fish tanks, a room for exhibitions, computers, and even a radio room… My danios even have their own cupboard, with all the materials neatly organised. There is even a special place for the danioscopes.
STEAM has entered every pore of the school. You can breathe it in every corner.
A whole collection of scientific posters about Danio’s adventures was waiting for me, and the four classes — two from 4th grade and two from 6th grade — presented their projects. Afterwards, there was a round of questions, each one more intelligent than the last.
I was moved.
Listening to the children talk about pipettes, danioscopes, ammonia, beating hearts… as if they were talking about something truly familiar, close and loved.
I’ll be telling you more about my dearest project over the next few days and weeks.

Danio still has so much to say.

Érase una vez un pez que se llamaba Danio, Danio rerio.
L@s científic@s lo adoraban porque podían mirar a través de sus huevos transparentes.
Este año, Danio puede visitar tu clase, para que te conviertas en científic@ y tu puedas también aprender muchas cosas.
Así empecé hace 9 años ya la primera publicidad del proyecto Aprende con Danio.
No sé cuanto llevas leyendo esta niusleter, pero este el proyecto que me hizo dejar una plaza de funcionaria y adentrarme en el desconocido mundo del emprendimiento, de los peces, de los niños... y me ha hecho vivir mil aventuras.
Hace 9 años ví la cara de unos niños viendo los huevos de unos peces y me dije, Txusita, esto es lo que quiero hacer de mayor.
Ayer ví que no me había equivocado.
Visité Aitor Ikastola, un colegio de San Sebastián que lleva haciendo el proyecto desde el inicio, en el que Danio ya forma parte de su curriculum, y creo afirmar con orgullo, casi que de su identidad.
Todos los años desde entonces 4º y 6º hacen el proyecto en sus clases.
Con la semillita que plantó Danio, han conseguido levantar todo un laboratorio impresionante.
El gobierno vasco ha apostado por reforzar esta apuesta científica y les ha dado la financiación que necesitaban.
Dorleta y Gurutxe, han creado un laboratorio absolutamente maravilloso. Con mesas altas para trabajar con las peceras, una sala para exposiciones, informática, y hasta una sala de radio... Mis danios tienen hasta su armario con todo el material ordenadito. Hay hasta un lugar para los danioscopios.
El STEAM ha entrado por todas los poros de la escuela, se respira en cada rincón.
Un montón de posters científicos con las aventuras de Danio me esperaban y las 4 clases, dos de 4º y 2 de 6º presentaron sus proyectos y luego hubo una ronda de preguntas, a cual más inteligente.
Me emocioné.
Escuchando a l@s niñ@s hablar de pipetas, danioscopios, amoniaco, corazones latiendo.. como quien habla de algo realmente familiar, cercano y querido.
Te iré hablando de mi proyecto más querido en los próximos día sy las próximas semanas.
La semana que vienen me voy a Hungría a prensentarlo.
A Danio le queda mucho que decir.
