English version below

What Does mRNA Mean for the Flu Vaccine?
I have been talking for a few days about the flu virus, the coronavirus, vaccines and the immune system, RNA and the new vaccines based on this molecule, its inventor, Katalín Karikó....
Okay, so now I'm going to put it all together.
As we saw, the flu virus is seasonal and changes a lot. This is because it has eight strands of RNA which, on top of mutating, can combine with each other those of different viruses, it reaches animals where it mutates even more...
The thing is that every year, there is a new flu virus. But the WHO has to bet on what will happen in autumn, back in January of the previous year, because vaccines have to be produced and it takes a long time.
On that road, well, obviously sometimes they get it wrong.
Well, since making vaccines with RNA is much faster, what it will allow is to produce them much closer to the flu season. That is going to result in much more accurate timing.
And this RNA technology has only just begun. It compares to the Internet. Nobody knew what the Internet was for when it started. It will have applications in cancer, rare diseases... nobody really knows.
Look, in the end the pandemic has had some good things.
A hug
María
Pd, you know, if you think this should go to the book please like it.
